CIPA participated in the 4th IMANI-FIZ roundtable discussion held in Accra on July 28, 2021. The event held on the theme – Access to Affordable Energy to Support Economic Growth and Job Creation in Ghana, engaged relevant stakeholders in Ghana’s energy sector to discuss ways the country can increase energy access and strengthen industrialization through competitive electricity and natural gas tariffs. CIPA with its long history and expertise in this field were invited as consultants to contribute meaningfully to the deliberations.
Executive VP of CIPA, Kwaku Osei Sarpong, among other contributions at the discussion had this to say, “CIPA through the recruitment of top level experienced talent is committed to assisting Ghana’s renewable energy master plan to meet the country’s sustainable development goals by 2030”.
The discussions of the day included power availability and affordability, the impact of power on individual incomes and businesses, energy matters covering oil, gas and nuclear energy, cost of power generation, tariff structure, connecting sparsely populated settlements, islands and lake-side communities to the national electricity grid among others.
This roundtable discussion, aligns with CIPA’s timetable of offering its expertise to relevant government and private enterprises looking to build a strong foothold in the energy sector. With a dedicated team focused on data collection, analysis and forecast, CIPA provided useful information that advanced the discussions of the day.
Present to deliver the keynote address was Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer MP, Deputy Minister for Energy & MP for Secondi. He noted that the Ministry has a shared commitment to the growth and development of Ghana through the provision of clean and affordable electricity. He noted that with the execution of the National Electrification Scheme, Ghana’s access to electricity has increased from about 15 percent at inception in 1989 to the current 85 percent, and the current government is committed to achieving universal access to electricity by the end of 2024.
In his welcome address, Mr Franklin Cudjoe, Founder & CEO of IMANI, highlighted that there are weightier energy matters before the current ministry covering oil, gas, and even nuclear energy.
